The route climbs from the coast into the central highlands, starting at Trou aux Cerfs, a dormant volcanic crater above Curepipe with panoramic views across the island. From there you continue past Mare aux Vacoas, the largest reservoir in Mauritius, and stop for the Sofie nature walk before reaching Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, the sacred crater lake that is the most important Hindu pilgrimage site on the island.
