Formalities

Visa is not necessary. A valid passport or traveling document(not an identity card) is required as the return ticket or one indicating a journey to another destination. No tourist is permitted to accept paid employment during his stay.

Changing Money

The local currency is the Mauritius rupee. It is divided into cents - Rs = rupee - One rupee = 0.0318 euro There are banks in all the large towns. They will change banknotes or traveler’s checks. Bank hours are: Monday trough Friday from 9.30 hrs to 2.30 pm and Saturdays 9.30 to 11.30 pm

Health

There are no compulsory vaccinations for European visitors. Persons coming from areas where Yellow Fever is a danger are advised to be sure that their tetanus, diphtheria, hepatitis B and hepatitis A are up to date.

Climate

The island’s climate is that of a tropical region of the southern hemispheres with two seasons that are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. The summer is humid and hot – from November to April: 22 degree Celsius at night and 30 degree Celsius and above during the day, with heavy rains and a relative humidity of 80 %. Mauritius has a cyclone season from mid December through mid-April. Due to the small size of the island, the probability of its being stuck directly by cyclones or storms is very low.
