When is the best time to swim with dolphins in Mauritius?
The best season is May to September when the sea is calmest and visibility is clearest. Dolphins are most active in the early morning, which is why our trip departs at 06:00. The Mauritius Tourism Authority permits dolphin swimming between 7am and 10am to protect the animals and reduce boat crowding. We arrive before the larger groups for a more peaceful encounter. What dolphins will I see at Tamarin Bay?
Two species live in the waters off Tamarin: Bottlenose dolphins, which are larger (up to 4 metres) and known for their friendly, curious nature, and Spinner dolphins, which are smaller and famous for their acrobatic leaps. Bottlenose dolphins swim in pods of around 15, while Spinner pods can reach up to 100. Our skippers follow strict ethical guidelines – no chasing, no feeding, no crowding.
